AI and Art: Etsy Will Let You Sell AI Art on Its Platform — But There's a Catch

Etsy now allows the sale of AI-generated art, offering new opportunities for artists using AI tools, but sellers must clearly disclose the involvement of AI in their creations. This policy aims to maintain buyer trust and address concerns about the authenticity and originality of AI-created works. The requirement has sparked debate among artists and buyers about the role of AI in art, with some viewing it as just another tool and others emphasizing the importance of transparency. Just one more thing

This week - I came across a Gartner Hype Cycle that included AI for Sales. The hype cycle suggested that AI used in Sales is at peak hype and headed to the trough of disillusionment. No doubt this is troubling, possibly a challenge as the 92% of companies who have started GenAI projects are trying to demonstrate value. GenAI with marketing and sales should be a no-brainer, right? But: 47% of workers who are using AI don’t know how to use it to be more productive. And: 77% say the tools have thus far decreased productivity.

Clearly things aren't turning out exactly the way that the C-Suite was expecting when they came to IT and said "hey - we need this right now!"

This to me is a clear indication of a couple things:

  1. You can't just slap ChatGPT or Microsoft Co-Pilot or Gemini or Claude into place and magic happens - there is no Magic Bullet or instant answer.
  2. Engaging teams and individuals with expert guidance, training and workshops is critical to helping the half of the company that hasn't really gotten to a place of knowing what to do.
  3. Automation and more built out user experiences than just a chatbot are necessary to create real impact and acceleration.

Let's just take an example:

You're a sales pro and you're trying to get info one what's going on with your client Visa. Sure - you could ask ChatGPT to tell you what Visa does. (I mean, if you have been living under a rock and don't already know.) You can ask it to tell you the Visa website. You can come up with 300 requests to try and cobble together a profile of what's going on. Hours later - you've got your market research on Visa. Multiply that by every sales pro and this doesn't seem quite so awesome. You might as well have just googled it right?

Market Research: You might as well have just googled it, right?

But this falls short of treating ChatGPT like a collaborator. What if you created instructions more like this:

Acting as a top market researcher at Ogilvy and using that mindset to decide what's worth knowing in profiling a company prior to engaging in an outbound sales campaign, create a comprehensive and rich analysis of Visa, including key positioning that might be effective in approaching C-Suite members to offer a solution impacting revenue development. Review sales media mentions, website content and press releases by Visa that might be relevant and summarize them in a series of sections. In your profile, provide any other sections that might also be valuable to me in my effort to kick off this campaign successfully. After your profile summary, provide me with an explanation of the rationale you used in defining profile sections.

This won't solve for everything you're trying to get - but it beats spending the next hour trying to think of every useful piece of information you might want to know. Better yet, if you have a thoughtful user experience that has been designed to do this.
